General ship paint coating process requirements:

Surface treatment requirements for hull raw materials (referred to as one treatment)

1. Interior panels for hull plates, deck slabs, bulkhead slabs, bulwarks, superstructure outer panels, inner floors and composite profiles should be shot blasted before blanking to meet the Swedish rusting standard Sa2.5, and then immediately sprayed with a zinc-rich shop primer for one coat.

2. The interior of the hull should also be sandblasted to meet the Sa2.5 standard and then promptly coated with a zinc-rich shop primer.

3. After surface treatment, the shop primer must be applied as soon as possible. It is not allowed to paint directly on the steel surface without proper preparation.

Secondary treatment

Hull surface treatment with primer or other coating (second treatment)

1. If the primed surface of the hull is damaged or defective, it should be treated according to the guidelines in Schedule 1.

2. When further painting is required on a hull that has already been primed or otherwise coated, the surface should undergo two treatments. The quality standards should follow the CB*3230-85 specifications.

Proper surface preparation is essential for ensuring the durability and effectiveness of the paint coatings on ships. Following these steps helps prevent corrosion and extends the life of the vessel. Always ensure that all work is carried out under suitable environmental conditions and by trained personnel.
