Application of cornfield herbicide
Chemical weed control in corn fields requires careful selection of the right herbicides, based on the optimal time for spraying, strict adherence to safe and effective dosages, and proper application methods. These steps are essential to ensure both the effectiveness and safety of weed control in corn crops.
Before planting, if there are no weeds in the field, a pre-emergence herbicide can be applied. Commonly used products include 40% isopropyl grassÂ·èŽ at 250–300 g/acre, 40% acetaminophen at 200–250 g/acre, 40% DingÂ·èŽ at 200–250 g/acre, 52% isopropyl grassÂ·èŽ at 200–250 g/acre, 60% isopropyl grassÂ·èŽ at 180–230 g/acre, and 40% methyl acetate at 200–250 g/acre. After wheat harvest, fields with high annual weed pressure can use a "one-to-one kill" approach, such as 40% isopropyl grassÂ·èŽ 200–250 g + 20% paraquat 150–200 g/acre or 52% isopropyl grassÂ·èŽ 150–200 g + 20% paraquat 150–200 g/acre. For perennial weeds, mix 40% isopropyl grassÂ·èŽ 200–250 g + 41% glyphosate isopropylamine salt 250–300 g/acre or 52% isopropyl grassÂ·èŽ 150–200 g + 41% glyphosate isopropylamine salt 250–300 g/acre.
During the corn growth period, the first critical stage is before weeds emerge, typically when corn has 1–3 leaves. At this time, herbicides like 40% Yufeng (isopropyl grassÂ·èŽ ) 250–300 ml/acre, 40% Jade Multi-received PropyleneÂ·èŽ 250–300 ml/acre, 52% Xiyangyang (isopropyl grassÂ·èŽ ) 200–250 ml/acre, or 60% Yujia (isopropyl grassÂ·èŽ ) 180–230 ml/acre are commonly used.
The 3–5 leaf stage is a crucial time for weed control. If not managed properly, weeds can significantly impact corn growth and yield. At this stage, products like 4% nicosulfuron suspending agent 100–120 ml/acre, 40% Jin Yufeng (nicarsulfuron) suspending agent 100–120 ml/acre, or 53% Jade Sweet (nicotinic acid to Tianjin) 90–105 g/acre are recommended. For fields with more aconite, a combination of 40% Happy Matter (smoke to Tianjin) 80–100 ml + 56% sodium dimethyltetrachloride 50–60 g/acre or 4% nicosulfuron 100 ml/acre + 56% sodium dimethyltetrachloride 50–60 g/acre may be used.
At the 5–6 leaf stage, when weeds are more abundant, options like 40% Happy Things (smoke to Tianjin) 120–150 ml/acre, 40% Jin Yufeng (nicarsulfuron) 120–150 ml/acre, or 40% Fate (sulphur grass to Tatsujin) 250–300 ml/acre can be applied. For fields with fragrant aconite, field convolvulus, small carp, or gray cabbage, 56% sodium dimethyltetrachloride 80–100 g/acre, 48% oxalopine 200–250 ml/acre, or a combination of 40% Happy Matter 80–100 ml + 56% sodium dimethyltetrachloride 50–60 g/acre is effective.
After the 8–10 leaf stage (when plant height reaches about 80 cm), if weeds are dense, 20% paraquat water agent 150–200 ml/acre is suitable. In cases of sparse weed growth, a combined herbicide such as 40% isopropyl grassÂ·èŽ 150–200 ml + 20% paraquat 200 ml/acre can be used.
When using a single herbicide, it’s important to calculate the correct dosage based on the product's recommended rate and the actual area of the field. When mixing two or more herbicides, ensure they have different modes of action but are compatible in terms of crop type, application timing, and method. When combining wettable powders and emulsifiable concentrates, dissolve the wettable powder in a small amount of water first, then add the emulsifiable concentrate. Always mix the solution thoroughly before spraying to ensure even coverage.
