Waterproof as much as possible without destroying the original waterproof layer

Try not to damage the original waterproof layer
When a new building is handed over for use, the bathroom is usually pre-treated with waterproofing. However, during renovation, many people tend to lay floor tiles, level the floor, or rearrange plumbing systems. These activities often end up damaging the original waterproof layer, which means that the waterproofing needs to be redone properly. It's essential to redo the waterproofing when you start decorating. Begin by leveling the floor with cement mortar, then clean the surface thoroughly before applying polyurethane (water glass) waterproof coating 2-3 times. Pay special attention to the corners where walls meet the floor and around the water pipes, as these are the most common places for leaks. Make sure the workers pay extra care to these areas. Also, require the renovation team to apply a 10-20 cm layer of polyurethane waterproof coating around the pipes in the kitchen and bathroom, then reapply the coating to strengthen the protection.
"Leak test" to check waterproofing
After completing the waterproofing work, close the door and plug the drain, then fill the bathroom floor with water to a certain level and mark it. Leave it undisturbed for 24 hours. If there’s no noticeable drop in the water level and no signs of leakage from the ceiling below, the waterproofing is considered successful. If the test fails, the entire waterproofing job must be redone and retested. Don’t skip this step—many unprofessional contractors don’t even do the waterproofing at all, just using some sealant and calling it a day. Once water starts leaking, it’s too late to fix. That’s why conducting the leak test is so important. Only after confirming there are no leaks should you proceed to lay the floor tiles.
Bathrooms are constantly exposed to moisture, making them prone to slipping. Therefore, it's best to choose anti-slip floor tiles with raised patterns. These tiles not only offer excellent waterproof performance but also remain safe to walk on even when wet. Additionally, make sure the floor slopes slightly toward the drain to ensure proper drainage and easier cleaning.
