Artificial stone will lead the new trend of stone consumption through the development of five generations
With the growing scarcity of natural stone, consumer preferences are shifting towards authenticity and a more natural aesthetic. High-performance artificial stone products, featuring advanced technology, superior quality, and efficient production, are now setting new trends in the decorative materials market. The breakthrough in "imitation stone" technology on artificial marble has led to significant improvements, particularly through the integration of "super clean and bright" techniques that enhance wear resistance, stain resistance, and surface smoothness. As a result, artificial stone is becoming increasingly similar to natural stone in both texture and performance, making it a rising favorite in the construction and interior design industries.
The first generation of artificial stone in China emerged in the 1980s. Companies in Beijing, Guangdong, and Shanxi introduced Italian synthetic production lines from Bailitong, leading to large-scale manufacturing. These early products were mainly based on natural granite, with some incorporating glass fragments and shells. However, their patterns remained scattered, colors were limited, and designs were simple, which made them affordable and still maintained a niche presence in the market.
The second generation marked a major leap forward. It was primarily made from natural marble and used an in-house developed process to mimic the formation of natural marble. This allowed for more realistic line patterns and color variations, transforming the texture from scattered spots to block shapes, and from monochrome to multi-color. The distribution became more random, enhancing depth and three-dimensionality, giving the stones a noble and elegant appearance. These products achieved a high level of realism, closely resembling natural stone and marking a significant step forward for Chinese artificial stone.
The third generation introduced transparent or semi-transparent components on the surface, increasing the board’s transparency and depth, creating a layered, three-dimensional effect that mimics real stone.
The fourth generation built upon the second, with brands like Century Shaanna and Yuyue Stone using natural Shaanna stone as a base to create a "craftsmanship" texture. These products can even be mistaken for real stone, offering quality that rivals the most premium natural options.
The fifth generation takes inspiration from "King of Stones"—jade. It features innovative jade-like textures, with a moist, bright, and natural appearance, accurately replicating the look and feel of precious jades such as "Jade Jade" and "Yangzhiyu." This advancement brings artificial stone closer than ever to the beauty and value of real jade.
