Potassium and boron are effective
Potassium is an essential nutrient that plays a crucial role in various biochemical processes within plants. It strengthens plant stems, reduces the risk of lodging, increases grain weight, and enhances the overall quality of agricultural produce. On average, potassium application can boost crop yields by 10% to 20%. Boron, on the other hand, is a micronutrient that significantly impacts the development of reproductive structures in plants, such as pollen and pollen tubes. When applied, boron promotes healthy meristem growth, supports normal reproductive development, and ensures proper formation of reproductive organs, which ultimately leads to higher yields—typically over 10%.
According to field tests, applying both potassium and boron in addition to nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers offers significant advantages compared to using only potassium or only boron. This combined approach results in yield increases of more than 5% to 8%, with even greater benefits observed for crops like rapeseed, which are particularly responsive to potassium and boron. In such cases, yield improvements can reach up to 12% or more.
The application of potassium and boron should be done in conjunction with nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers. One common method is to apply them as a base fertilizer during soil preparation. For this, 10–15 kg of potassium fertilizer and 0.5–1 kg of boron fertilizer per mu (approximately 667 square meters) should be added along with nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers. Another method is topdressing, where 3–5 kg of potassium fertilizer and 0.2–0.25 kg of boron fertilizer per mu are sprayed onto the leaves using 40–50 kg of water during the critical growth stage of the crop.
By integrating these nutrients into the fertilization plan, farmers can optimize plant health, improve productivity, and achieve better harvests. Proper nutrient management not only increases yield but also enhances the resilience of crops against environmental stressors, ensuring long-term sustainability in agriculture.
