Jiulixiang's curing method

How to Maintain Jiulixiang:

Jiulixiang, a beautiful and delicate plant, requires proper care to thrive. First, placement is crucial. It should not be kept in dimly lit rooms for long periods. Instead, place it in a semi-shaded area. During summer, protect it from direct sunlight, as excessive exposure can damage the leaves. In winter, move it indoors or into a greenhouse where the temperature stays above 5°C. To maintain humidity, always keep a small water dish nearby or mist the air around the plant regularly.

Watering is another essential aspect of care. Jiulixiang prefers moist conditions, but when grown in pots, the soil dries out quickly. If not watered in time, the plant can suffer from dehydration and eventually die. However, overwatering is equally dangerous. Too much water can cause root rot and prevent the roots from breathing properly. The key is to water thoroughly when the top layer of soil feels dry, but avoid keeping the soil constantly wet. A good rule of thumb is “don’t let it dry out, don’t overwater—it should be watered until it drains.”

During hot summer months, it's best to water once in the morning and once in the evening. In spring and autumn, watering once a day or every other day is sufficient. In winter, you can reduce the frequency—every few days is usually enough. Avoid watering during rainy days unless the soil is completely dry. When fertilizing, make sure to water the plant right after applying the fertilizer. If using tap water, let it sit for a day before use, and always use a watering can with a fine spray nozzle for even distribution.

3. Fertilization: Since the potting soil has limited nutrients, it's important to supplement them appropriately to support the growth of your Jiulixiang bonsai. However, because bonsai trees grow slowly, over-fertilizing can lead to excessive growth and ruin the plant’s shape. Choose the right type and concentration of fertilizer based on the tree’s needs at different stages of growth.

Plants require three main nutrients: nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). Nitrogen promotes leaf and branch growth, phosphorus supports flower and fruit development, and potassium strengthens the stems and roots. Adjust the type of fertilizer according to what your Jiulixiang needs at each stage of its life cycle.

When it comes to fertilizing your bonsai, here are some important tips:

1. Always fully decompose organic and cake-based fertilizers before applying them. Otherwise, they may burn the roots and harm the plant.

2. Liquid fertilizers should be diluted properly before use. Using them too concentrated can cause fertilizer burn and damage the roots.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your Jiulixiang remains healthy, vibrant, and beautifully shaped throughout the year.
