China's auto industry is running smoothly in April, with sales and sales exceeding 2 million units.

The growth rate slowed by 4.3 and 4.1 percentage points compared to the same period in 2023, and by 0.2 and 0.1 percentage points from January to March. Passenger car sales saw a strong increase, while commercial vehicle sales declined. In April, passenger cars accounted for 1.6674 million units in production and 1.6009 million in sales, down 4.6% and 5.9% from March, but up 11.3% and 11.6% compared to April 2023. SUVs and MPVs showed the highest growth, with production rates over 35%. Meanwhile, commercial vehicle production and sales dropped to 401,000 and 395,200 units, a decrease of 11.8% and 13.9% from March. Compared to April 2023, commercial vehicle production fell 0.2%, and sales dropped 1.3%. The market share of Chinese brands continued to shrink. In April, sales of Chinese brand passenger cars reached 596,900 units, down 11.2% from March but up 4.5% from the same period last year. This accounted for 37.1% of total passenger car sales, down 2.2 percentage points from the previous month and 2.5 percentage points from the same period in 2023. From January to April, Chinese brand passenger car sales totaled 2.4812 million, a slight decline of 0.1% from the same period last year. Their share of the market was 38.3%, still higher than the previous year, but they lost ground mainly to German, Japanese, American, and French brands. Chinese brand car sales in April were 226,600 units, down 12.2% from March and 12.9% from the same period last year. Their market share fell to 22%, a drop of 1.7 percentage points from the previous month and 4.7 percentage points from the same period in 2023. From January to April, sales of Chinese brand cars totaled 941,600 units, down 16.6% from the same period in 2023, with their market share falling by 5.8 percentage points. Automobile exports also faced a downward trend in April. According to data from the China Automobile Association, total vehicle exports in April reached 78,100 units, a decrease of 8.6% from March and 12.6% from the same period in 2023. Passenger car exports fell 4.1% from the previous month and 13.3% from the same period last year, while commercial vehicle exports dropped 14.5% from March and 11.7% from April 2023. Cumulative exports from January to April totaled 286,800 units, a 9.3% decline from the same period in 2023, with the drop increasing by 1.5 percentage points compared to the first quarter.
