DPRK University Delegation Visits Jida Superhard Materials Key Laboratory
On June 3rd and 4th, Zhao Zhe, Vice President of Kim Il Sung University in North Korea, made an official visit to Jilin University. The visit marked a continued effort to strengthen academic and cultural ties between the two institutions. On the afternoon of June 3rd, Vice President Chen Gang of Jilin University met with the delegation at the university’s main campus. During the meeting, both sides exchanged insights on the progress and future directions of their cooperation.
Chen Gang and Zhao Zhe highlighted the successful collaboration between Jilin University and Kim Il Sung University over the past decade, particularly in areas such as joint research projects, student exchanges, and faculty training. They also discussed potential new initiatives for enhancing teaching and research cooperation in the coming years. Several key departments from Jilin University were present during the meeting, including the Northeast Asia Research Institute, the School of Physics, the School of Earth Sciences, the Academic Affairs Office, and the International Cooperation and Exchange Office.
Throughout the visit, the North Korean delegation toured several important facilities on campus. They visited the National History Museum of Kyrgyzstan, the State Key Laboratory of Superhard Materials, the State Key Laboratory of Supramolecular Structures and Materials, the Central Campus Library, and the School of Continuing Education. At the School of Continuing Education, the delegation had the opportunity to experience Jilin University's online teaching interaction system and visited the recording studio used for distance learning programs.
This visit comes nearly a decade after Jilin University and Kim Il Sung University officially established a partnership in June 2011. Kim Il Sung University, founded in 1946, is considered the first people's university in North Korea and serves as a leading educational and training institution in the country. It offers a wide range of disciplines, including humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, agriculture, and medicine. Over the years, it has become a central hub for education, political training, and intellectual development in North Korea.
The visit not only reinforced existing ties but also opened up new possibilities for deeper academic and cultural exchanges between the two universities. Both institutions expressed enthusiasm for future collaborations that could benefit students and faculty alike.
