Unmatched safety will eliminate hidden dangers
In the Class A lounge of the Maanshan Iron and Steel Nanshan Development Company’s dry cleaning plant on May 6th, an internal safety meeting was held to address hidden risks. A female worker from the Red Scorpion team stood up and shared her experience: “Last time, while I was adjusting the belt screw, I realized my wrench was missing. This made me realize that we need to improve how we store and inspect common tools. We should also review and organize the less frequently used ones so we can quickly respond to unexpected hazards.†She added with a serious but warm tone, “Some people asked me why I could recognize the 15-second stop signal and act accordingly. The answer is simple—regular on-site inspections not only sharpen my skills but also help me spot potential dangers early. It’s something I’ve learned through experience over time.â€
Her words sparked a moment of realization among the attendees.
Just as the previous speaker sat down, Bao Xiaoling began her “Safety Classics†session. “When you see someone at their post with an unfastened helmet strap, you must stop them immediately. We must be brave enough to speak up against habitual violations, because accidents can be fatal,†she emphasized. Though she didn’t use any special phrases, her straightforward and clear message resonated deeply with everyone, reinforcing the importance of safety awareness.
The team organized regular sessions focused on identifying “unsafe behaviors†and “unsafe conditions†across the company. These activities encouraged more open discussions about safety, helping employees share experiences and learn from one another. By actively eliminating risks, the initiative strengthened the overall safety culture. Employees gradually shifted from thinking “I need safety†to “We want safety,†creating a collective responsibility where everyone felt accountable for maintaining a safe working environment.
Through these efforts, the company fostered a culture of shared ownership in safety, ensuring that every individual played a role in preventing incidents and promoting a secure workplace.
