Textured backplane will be able to polymerize solar photovoltaic cells

A few days ago, Iowa State University and Ames Laboratory found that the use of grainy polymer solar photovoltaic cells.

Studies have shown that this material layer maintains a uniform thickness even on less than one-millionth of a metre-thick surface. It is a thin, uniform, and light-absorbing material layer made from a textured substrate. Polymeric photovoltaic cells can absorb more light through these pleats—including reflecting light between the pleats.

The thin, light-absorbing surface of the battery also maintains good electrical conductivity. This technology effectively uses the light trap mechanism, and the efficiency of photovoltaic cells can be increased by 20%.

The test also showed that the light near the edge of the near-infrared region of the spectrum was increased by nearly 100% compared to the flat photovoltaic cell. The pleated layer makes the energy conversion efficiency even greater. This is caused by light capture, especially if the wavelength is longer and the photon capture efficiency increases.

It is understood that the material can be widely used in traditional silicon-based photovoltaic cells.
