Strategic implementation of key projects. The construction of the project will open up new land import channels for oil and gas resources in the southwest region of China, which will help promote the diversification of China’s energy imports and enhance the country’s energy supply support capacity; it will help promote infrastructure construction in the southwest, optimize the energy structure in the southwest, and promote Bring economic and social development in Yunnan to benefit the people of all ethnic groups. He said that CNPC should give full play to the capabilities and advantages of project construction, scientifically organize and carefully arrange projects with high standards, high quality, and high efficiency, effectively protect the ecological environment, and strive to build high-quality projects, green projects, and harmonious projects.

Qin Guangrong, on behalf of the provincial government of Yunnan Province and people of all ethnic groups in the province, expressed his sincere gratitude to the experts and engineering technicians who have long been concerned about supporting the development of Yunnan and who have worked hard for the Sinopec oil and gas pipeline project and the construction of the oil refining project. He said that this is a major measure for CNPC to implement the national strategic plan to help and care about the development of Yunnan. The Sino-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline project in China is an important part of the crude oil and natural gas pipeline project from the west coast of Myanmar to the southwest of China. The design capacity of crude oil pipelines is 22 million tons/year, and the annual gas transmission capacity of natural gas pipelines is 12 billion cubic meters/year.

The China-Myanmar natural gas pipeline is 793 kilometers long in Myanmar, and the China-Myanmar crude oil pipeline is 771 kilometers long in Myanmar. After the two pipelines entered the territory of China from Ruili, Yunnan, the crude oil pipeline arrived at Chongqing via Guizhou. The length of the trunk line was 1,631 kilometers. The natural gas pipeline reached Guizhou through Guizhou and the trunk line was 1,727 kilometers long. On June 3 this year, the offshore section of China-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline has officially started construction. The domestic section of the project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2013.

The internal section of the Sino-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline passes through 73 prefectures and cities in 23 prefecture-level cities in 3 provinces and 1 municipality, and it passes through or spans 56 large and medium-sized rivers and 76 mountain tunnels. Along the line, the topography and geomorphology, complex geological conditions, and frequent geological disasters are one of the most difficult projects in the pipeline construction history in China.

While the construction of the Sino-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline sector was underway, the Yunnan supporting refinery project laid a foundation in Kunming. This is a downstream project supporting the construction of the Sino-Burmese crude oil pipeline. The entire project is planned to be completed in 2013.
