From the source of machine tool imports, Japan and Germany are still the most important source of machine tool imports in the United States. In March 2011, the United States imported 143 million US dollars from Japan, an increase of 35.9% from the previous month; imported machine tools from Germany reached 53.8 million US dollars, a month-on-month increase 40.6%. The remaining top five import source regions are: Taiwan ($21.6 million), Switzerland ($21.4 million) and South Korea ($20.7 million).
